Storytelling in Music

The Bay Area’s favorite storyteller Joel ben Izzy is back, with more wonderful tales accompanied by music provided by the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. This program features a reprise of last season’s Main Stage hit Luck or Wisdom?, a wonderfully crafted folktale paired with an energetic klezmer-style score by Stephen Saxon.

About Family Concerts

We’re very proud of our admission-free family concerts, which feature fun-filled collaborations with local professionals and young musicians. These 45-minute presentations introduce classical music to listeners aged 3 to 103, setting the stage for life-long appreciation of this great art form.
Admission is free for all concert-goers. Seating is first-come, first-served, and doors open to everyone 30 minutes before concert time.

VERY FIRST CONCERTS

Bang on a Pan: Fun with Percussion

The oldest musical instrument is the rock. Not even cavemen could resist the urge to tap stones together and start getting their groove on! Meet three of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra’s team of top percussionists, those versatile musicians that can be found at the back of the orchestra, handling everything from a bass drum and cymbals to a thundersheet and crotales. This presentation is guaranteed to astound you—and likely to make things a bit noisier around the house for a while.
